Features of Yes question

1.      Paraphrasing (Diễn đạt đồng nghĩa)

·         Reading: People find it challenging to master English.

·         Question: Having a good command of English is hard.

2.      Synonymous adjective / adverb / noun.

·         Reading: She gets hooked on the internet.

·         Question: She is crazy about the internet.

3.      Part to relationship

·         Reading: His action, too thoughtless and impulsive, endanger his chance of promotion.

·         Question: That he cannot stand the opportunity to be upgraded in his job results from his careless action.

4.      Logical inference (Tư duy logic)

·         Reading: All people are equal to each other.

·         Question: The black and white are put on the equal footing.

5.      Summarizing

·         Reading: He owns 3 houses in 3 countries. Many women admire him and are ready to be his wife. However, he does not want to tie the knot, enjoying freedom of his bachelorhood.

·         Question: He is rich, admirable, but a free man.

1.      Contrast information

·         R: He is handsome.

·         Q: He is not good looking.

2.      Wrong information

a)      Purpose

·         R: The aim of this survey is to show how unfair the justice system is.

·         Q: His survey aims at stating the pervasive corruption in the justice system.

b)      Scale

·         R: This product is useful for both infrants and teenagers.

·         Q: Both the old and the young benefit from this product.

c)      Time

·         R: In the 1920s, this movement began to deeply influence America.

·         Q: In 1931, America was profoundly impacted by this movement.

d)     Quantity

·         R: Quite a few people tend to have self-esteem.

e)      Degree

·         R: The girl that I saw yesterday was extremely sexy.

·         Q: I saw a fairly sexy girl.

f)       Name / Object.

·         R: The man creating this item was Robert.

·         Q: The creator of this item was Lena.

g)      Order (Trật tự)

·         R: First pour oil into the sauce pan. Then put the sliced meat. Last add some spices.

·         Q: After pouring oil into saucepan, add some spices to meat and then place sliced meat.

Feature of NOT GIVEN Question

1.      Totally new information

·         R: When the economy begins to recover, people are happy.

·         Q: When war happens, people are sad.

2.      Added information in form of noun, adjective, adverb preposition and Verb phrases, comparison and contrast.

·         R: Her voice is beautiful.

·         Q: Her voice is very beautiful.

3.      Whole to part relationship

·         R: Her strong personalities are decisiveness, enthusiasm and creativity.

·         Q: She is enthusiastic, creative, assertive, cooperative.

4.      Replaced by a different word whose meaning does not contrast or is not synonymous with words stated in the reading passage though this word is a bit related to the words in the article.

·         R: She criticized him.

·         Q: She does not like him.
